What to Do When You Are Not Able to Take Decisions in Life?

                                                                       Simple choice

Taking decisions in life is crucial for everyone. Decision does not mean only thinking about the big choices; it also means the small choices we make every second of our lives. Even with small choices like which dress to buy, some people find it difficult to make decisions. Some make regrettable decisions because they respond too quickly, particularly when it comes to relationships or in business. Then there are those who make good decisions in daily life but struggle when it comes to major decisions, like choosing a career. So it is essential to learn the way of making decisions. Let’s start this blog with an exciting story of Payal.

Once upon a time in Swami Vivekananda School, there was a big drawing competition. Payal and Basu, the best friends, were super excited about it. They participated to showcase their artistic talents. The day before the competition, Payal planned to draw her favourite cartoon, Shinchan, with a pencil sketch. On the other hand, Basu decided to create a beautiful mandala art. They practiced a lot.

On the day of the competition, they sat in their assigned places and began to draw. Payal was confident at first, all set to draw her cartoon character. However, when she saw other kids drawing amazing things like sceneries, folk art, and tall buildings, she felt her drawing was too simple.

So, she changed her mind and decided to draw a scenery. But, since she hadn't practiced it much, it didn't turn out well. Time was running out, and she got worried. She quickly shifted to drawing folk art, but that was difficult. With time slipping away, she panicked and went back to her initial plan of drawing the cartoon character. But, by then, the time was almost up.

At the end of the drawing, Basu waved at Payal from the last bench, eager to see her drawing. Basu proudly showed his mandala art, but Payal hesitated to show her drawing. Instead, she went to her father, feeling upset.

Payal's father comforted her and shared a story from his own life. He told her about a time when he decided to start his own toy business against everyone's advice at the age of 30. Initially, the business was successful. But his business faced challenges with the rise of video games. Children did not like toys more back then. He went through tough times, even struggling to afford food.

At one point, he felt his decision of leaving a job and doing business was wrong. He went home to home to sell toys and thought to give up. But suddenly one day, he came up with the idea of "mystery boxes" for his toys. He packaged all toys in a box and wrote: "find me what I am." This unique approach turned his fortune around, making his toys popular among children and helped him to become rich.

Then one day, a press meet took place, and in that, a reporter asked, "Sir, what is the secret of your success?"

"Two words."

"And, sir, what are they?"

"Good decisions."

"And how do you make good decisions?"

"One word."

"And, sir, what is that?"

"Experience."

"And how do you get Experience?"

"Two words."

"And, sir, what are they?"

"Bad decisions."

Payal's father concluded the story with a valuable lesson:

"Good decisions come from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions."

So it simply means that there is no good and bad; there is only one thing, and that is the “simple choice.” Honestly, you will never know beforehand whether you are making a good or bad decision. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't take your chances. Take your chance with whatever you want to do with life.

So the first thing to learn about making your own decisions is

Know it!

Then

Think over it!!

And finally,

Take the responsibility for whatever you decide!!!

Now the question is, what if you were wrong?

No problem, something is better than nothing.

When you learn how to take responsibility for yourself, there are fewer chances of making the wrong decision.

And still, if your decision is wrong… take another decision to make the first one right.

Now the question is, what if I don't know what I want to do with my life, then how to decide?

The answer is this - Don’t plan your whole life at a single moment. Start by asking yourself what you would like to do for the next hour only. That's it. Once you figure that out, complete the hour doing what you like and then move to the next.

Eventually, you will reach the point you are supposed to go to. Many times, we get confused and doubt our own decisions. But we must be sure of what we are doing. What factors help you make the best decisions? To make decisions in life, you always need information! Taking suitable advice from elders is good. The only way to learn decision-making is to take decisions and be responsible for your own  decisions. Your decision may be right or wrong, but you would be able to learn in either case and become a better decision-maker. And this is my favorite lesson regarding decision-making.

Happy blogging!!!
